Ungermann Brothers

Ungermann Brothers

December 2019: Ungermann Brothers has opened at Marina Mirage!
Ben Ungermann, 2017 MasterChef runner-up and renowned ‘King of Ice Cream’, together with his brother Danny, have brought their gourmet ice creamery to the seaside this summer with the exciting launch of Ungermann Brothers Gold Coast, their new flagship store.
Opening just in time for the summer period, the brothers will be scooping up 18 weird and wonderful flavours, such as Blue Cheese and Fig (my favourite), Roasted Garlic, and Lavender and Honeycomb.
There’s even a brand new special scoop that will be available exclusively at the Gold Coast store featuring salted caramel, tempered chocolate and potato chips. Can’t wait to try it!
See you there! MARINA MIRAGE Next to Sunset Bar & Grill – opposite Palazzo Versace.

…..

When Ben Ungermann finished the finals of Masterchef 2017, he headed back to his hometown. Using the momentum gained from the show, the contestant dubbed ‘the ice cream king’ decided to use the experience gained from the show to start a business. Joining up with his brother Danny, a sales executive, Ungermann Brothers was born.

“Ipswich was always going to be the place where we set up our business,” Danny tells us, “because we grew up here. This is our town.”

Situated in the dining precinct of the heritage-listed 88 Limestone Street complex, alongside the Pumpyard Bar & Brewery and Dovetails Restaurant, Ungermann Brothers Ice-cream Parlour is the perfect place for a family treat. Divided into two, the ‘creation zone’ or walk-through kitchen, and the servery, diners can theatrically see their ice cream being made in store across a glass divide before they continue to the servery.

The dining room’s 1960s retro black and white chequered floor, powder blue and white booths and pink neon signs reference not only their father’s bar but also the value of whole food. Vintage posters and memorabilia give a wholesome look, a portrait of the two brothers standing as heroes acknowledging their ‘Old World’ Dutch heritage.

Their ice-cream is made with ‘old school’ goodness using local Norco Scenic Rim milk, locally-sourced ingredients with no artificial additives or stabilisers to make their range of over fifty unique ice cream flavours and milk shakes.

With Ben away touring the United States, Lauren Bishop is Head Ice Cream Maker.  She is passionate about her craft.

With eighteen flavours on offer at any one time, such as lavender honeycomb, fig and blue cheese, carrot cake, and liquorice and fennel, these guys hit the ball right out of the park! It’s all about new flavour combinations, tantalising and teasing taste buds. How can we resist!

Taking pride of place on the menu are the store’s range of six delectable ice-cream-based desserts, all worthy of a place in any top restaurant. Their flavour range includes Dark chocolate with tastes of orange, Lemongrass Vanilla ice cream with tropical fruit, Sesame Oil and Wasabi ice cream with Miso Caramel, Dark Chocolate with tastes of Orange, Licorice Allsorts, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate and Raspberry, and Bacon, Salted Caramel and Belgian Waffles, each dessert plate styled as a Masterchef creation. There are even dairy free options! Enjoy them with an old school shake on the side. Amazing!
