Tweed Real Food

We have to feel for our farmers. Battlers under siege, first they’ve fought the drought, then bushfires, then floods. Many of them have suffered all three, losing cattle, crops, trees and even their farms.

Julia Foyster and her husband Nathan are among those farmer families. Fifth generation farmers, the family own and operate several farms across Northern NSW and Far North Queensland. After losing their watermelon crops in the floods, they lost their crop of 7 million avocadoes in a brutal hailstorm before bush fires and drought took out 1,000 of their avocado trees.

Inspired by her family’s connection to the land, Julia Foyster set out to create a product that would not only bring incredible flavours to the nation’s kitchens but also to create an opportunity for her family to have another stream of income, subsidising some of their losses from climatic events.

Just over a year ago she launched her range of pantry items, Tweed Real Food. Comprising eleven different gourmet rubs, unique spice blends, salts, balsamic vinegars and nut-free dukkahs, her products are handcrafted and eco-friendly, all natural and plant based and free from preservatives, gluten and dairy, soy, additives and MSG. Even their recycled packaging is environmentally friendly, labels printed on 100% recycled paper with vegetable-based ink.

With a silver medal awarded to one of her balsamic vinegars at the 2019 Australian Food Awards, Julia herself is also gaining recognition as an inspiring entrepreneur, winning the silver award for the ‘Food & Beverage’ category at the AusMumpreneur Awards. Julia shares her recipe for Tweed Avo Smash, using some of her products.
