Opened in October 2011, Citrique brings interactive dining to the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa. Together with the signature Japanese restaurant Benihana, and the Lobby Lounge, Citrique completes the dining options of the opulent Marriott.
Sous Chef, Eric Henck, former Sous Chef of the Ritz Carlton in both the Caribbean and Florida, who has been a chef in Michelin star restaurants in France, Germany and Brazil, brings an international flavour to Citrique, working with Andrew Fraser, the resort’s Executive Chef.
Having undergone a $20 million refurbishment last year, Citrique sparkles with sophistication, cream granite pillars offsetting the dark timber floor and furniture, the opulent colours of autumn crowned with golden leaves suspended from discs of light overhead. Floor to ceiling glass on two sides of the restaurant overlook the lush tropical gardens and rainforest pool. It’s now one of our favourite settings – for a drink in the comfortable lounge beside the restaurant, or for a special meal.
Citrique is divided into four different dining zones which vary in their level of interaction; a Western ‘take’ on five star Asian hotels, where food is ordered and cooked at stations according to your desire. The Cold Zone features fresh local seafood, sushi and sashimi, salads, cured meats, antipasto and cheeses; the Hot Zone of international food includes a pizza station complete with a front counter of kindling as decoration, tacos made to order, and an Asian corner which includes curries and a few select yum cha dishes; the Grill Zone has a variety of Indonesian-style satay skewers and an open kitchen roast station where you are served from a rotisserie slow roasting quail, leg of lamb, beef and pork; and the Decadence Zone where you can indulge in ice cream, profiteroles, crème caramel and patisserie prepared by the pastry team.
Just inside the restaurant’s entrance, it’s the centrepiece of the display which attracts most people: the abundance of freshly cooked local seafood: succulent prawns, bugs, crab, oysters, mussels, scallops, sushi and sashimi. And it is in abundance, with the dishes continually refilled to brimming with good sized seafood portions, fresh and of great quality.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, Citrique also has an à la carte menu available. On week days, the à la carte lunch features dishes such as pan-fried Atlantic salmon, prime fillet steak, angel hair pasta with fresh prawns and wood fired pizza, as well as a seafood platter for $42.50 per person. Lunch specials start at $20. Included in the price of the main meal is a selection of salads, antipasto, soup, fresh breads and an ice cream selection. Indulge in a seafood smorgasbord lunch for $79 per head on Saturdays until the end of August 2012 and enjoy a bottle of Moet and Chandon per couple! Be sure to book as this is a really popular lunchtime destination; it’s fabulous value!
While the food standard is great, the restaurant’s dinner menu is priced according to an international standard. At just over $70 per person for the seafood buffet, it’s not a meal you’d indulge in every night, however fresh seafood is pricey, and the range of options in the buffet is fabulous. The Seafood Buffet is available seven nights as well as Saturday and Sunday lunch. Citrique is a special occasion restaurant where, in a lush and opulent setting with top level service, you can enjoy the abundant catch of our oceans; one of the best seafood feasts on the coast.
