Seaduction, A Taste of Autumn

There is nothing quite like a long, decadent degustation lunch with spectacular views. For that particular indulgence, nowhere surpasses Seaduction, perched on the first storey of Peppers Soul, Surfers Paradise.

Reminding me of the elegantly clad mother of one of my childhood friends, Seaduction awaits us as we arrive, ever patient, ever smiling. We are graciously led to our table by the window, sinking into comfy leather seats, our napkins delicately placed on our laps.

Dining at lunch shows off the Coast at its best. The sea lies expansive before us, a passing parade of tourists and locals a moving tableau of life in a seaside city. It’s the coastal seasonal produce that is also on show, the best of sea, land and forest the hero in each dish, with modern European technique applied to Australian produce.

Executive Chef James Fiske recently unveiled his autumn menu, which runs until the end of May. As we turn our back on the summer heat, it’s a chance to reveal the more mature and earthy flavours of the season: Truffled Congo potatoes, House-cured salmon, Suckling pig with aubergine and 40-day dry-aged Currumbin Valley beef.

We experience a flawless degustation from one of our finest chefs (ex-Michelin starred restaurants through Europe, and Chef de Cuisine at Palazzo Versace’s Vanitas) showing technically brilliant combinations of colour, texture and taste; innovative and beautifully assembled components on each dish enhanced by touches of molecular gastronomy.

It’s a menu to wander through at your leisure, panting in wonder, stopping to graze here and there. There’s also an à la carte menu available at lunch, as well as a full vegetarian degustation. Added to that is the feeling of luxury with roomy chairs, sedate comfort, attentive service and spectacular water views.

There’s an extensive wine list to accompany the food, from Old to New worlds, the feature being the range of well-chosen boutique wines of Australasia.

Why not enjoy a little Friday afternoon luxury, easing into the weekend with a light Fleur Frosé cocktail, such as La Vieille Fermé (rosé cubes, Massenez peach, elderflower and fresh lime) or the Frosé Bella Rouge (Langmeil Bella Rouge rosé cubes, Domain de Canton, Citrus, Basil & Ginger). With cocktail and canapés in hand, you can sit on the veranda overlooking the sea as the sun sets. Life doesn’t get much better.
