Russian Delight

UPDATE July 2014: Russian Delight is open in a brand new shop in Burleigh, at the front of their factory. We look forward to visiting and updating our photos very soon!

As a providore and supplier, Russian Delight specialises in Russian, German, Polish and Hungarian smallgoods. The shop houses large refrigerated displays filled with smoked meats such as a range of salamis, smoked and paprika coated spek; continental dairy products such as buttermilk and specialty cheeses; horseradish, sauerkraut, herring and other pickled products; and Russian pastas such as pierogi and vareniki. These are complemented by shelves of other European packaged grocery items including biscuits and fondue mixes.

Russian delight5 Customers travel long distances to stock up on smallgoods from this store. My personal favourites are the garlic chicken salami, knackwurst sausage and the wood-smoked chicken, all of which are produced daily in the Russian Delight factory at Burleigh Heads, adjoining the retail outlet. Like all their other handmade products, these meats are all natural and preservative free. Freshly knackwurst (smoked pork sausage) is a smooth moist melt in your mouth delight, the light hint of smoke lingering on your tongue after the sausage has dissolved. It’s absolutely addictive! Already cooked, you can boil for a couple of minutes before eating, or fry. This meat is so different to an Aussie barbeque, it’s easy to see why Europeans take a whole sausage for lunch on a daily basis. But would one be enough?

With its combination of artful European window decoration, its aroma of hand-smoked meat and its carefully arranged displays, this shop truly is a Russian delight!

I have never received worse Customer Service from a store.

We had called up to put some food aside, I then called up and said we would be an hour late – The lady on the phone said this was fine. We traveled an hour to get to the deli and the lady said, “we sold them all 5 minutes ago”. No sorry, nor did she help to offer an alternative, just “we sold them”.

I could not believe how rude this woman was. I will never go back and suggest you do not do the same if you want to be treated as poorly as we were.

Agree with previous comment. I’m a Russian native speaker and a lady which works in the shop has pretended that she doesn’t know Russian while she speaks with Russian accent in English lol! I was laughing when I left the shop. She was not polite at all, by the way.

Just because someone seem to have Russian accent doesn’t mean they can speak Russian. As for the service I shop at Russian Delights regularly because the food is good quality and the service is always good. Anyone who agrees with me, please leave your comments here so that we don’t leave it for the customers with negative experience form everyone else’s opinion about this business.

We’ve always had excellent service at Russian Delight as well. There is room on the Gold Coast for several continental smallgoods/deli operators, each one appealing to their particular market. Thanks goodness for the variety!

Though it’s not on their regular menu, see if The Old Danube will make you one.
