Ferry Road Market provides a most civilised shopping experience. There’s a great choice of markets on the Gold Coast, but the ‘trolley trudge’ is not for everyone. Some people need a more pleasurable food shopping experience, as well as a built in ‘need it now’ adaptability to their lives –from ‘there are visitors coming to dinner tonight – what can I buy’ through to ‘where can we meet for coffee at 4pm and get something for dinner at the same time’ kind of place.
More a collection of specialty food stores than a market, the Ferry Road Markets is located in a converted hardware shop in a warehouse complex just off busy Ferry Road. It’s a fantastic mix of thirteen top quality retailers under one roof, providing coast gourmets with foodie shopping heaven!
Although related to the James Street Markets in Brisbane, it seems more user-friendly and more relaxed: it’s easier to get to, easier to park and visually more logical. Stores are arranged around the edge of a central eating area, so shoppers can easily complete a circuit of the market viewing the abundant displays of each retailer. This is a convenient, time-efficient, comfortable way to shop for the best quality produce available. While goods are not the cheapest available, they rank with the best. Shop in air-conditioned comfort at this one stop collection of stores, accompanied by the aroma of coffee and the visual spectacle of beautifully arranged produce. With such temptingly fresh, high quality food for sale, we’re sure that no one will walk away empty handed!

Cardamom Pod – the new Cardamom Pod Brickworks is beautiful, fresh, airy and plant-driven. It features unbleached paper menus adorned with botanical pen drawings, and a large henna-like representation of Krishna graces one wall. Cardamom Pod is the haven of the super healthy, and good food never looked so good. We’re reminded to eat a rainbow of colours. No matter what you choose, your meal comes prepared in a bowl or on a hand-thrown plate adorned by flowers and cacao nibs, or in a coloured glass with fruit edging its rim. Painstakingly presented, gorgeously feminine and markedly Instagrammable, we gorge on this food with our eyes before a bite ever passes our lips. Simply beautiful and so awe-inspiring that we know it must be good for us. Contact number: 0424 251 008.

Flavors@Ferry – when owners Lynne and Robert Powell opened up Flavors@Ferry after several years overseas, loyal patrons of their former restaurant Evergreen flocked in the doors. There’s a classy feel to the venue which fits to the clientele who frequent the Ferry Road Market precinct. It features a mixture of high and low tables, communal dining and leather lounges which allow for mix seating. Outside, a Bali hut and water features create a lush verdant feel.
