UPDATE Feb.2015: Canvas has been an evolving concept, so check with the cafe about classes and activities. What has remained constant is not only the eclectic and funky range of gifts and cookbooks, but most of all the excellent coffee and decadent snacks which have made it a firm fave for many local foodie officiados.
Situated in a sheltered side street of the increasingly funky Nobby Beach, Stephanie Lawson’s Canvas is an exciting take on ‘art craft espresso’. It’s a smallish shopfront dedicated to creativity, namely art and craft, while serving great coffee and a small range of well-chosen treats.
In the past there have been children’s reading classes and art lessons held in the space. Resident artists’ works and a range of craft are also available for sale both at the shop and online. The Uncle Joe’s coffee is a hit with locals, a lemon macaroon a delightful accompaniment. This is a pleasant bright arty space not only with lots of potential, but as it constantly develops to suit local needs, Canvas has maintained its popularity in a tightly competitive market.
