Burleigh Heads Farmers Markets

Burleigh Heads Farmers Markets

Burleigh Heads Farmers Markets, opened in June 2012, offer a different blend of produce and wares to other markets on the coast.

There are fruit and vegetables for sale (like other markets, some are sold by retailers rather than by farmers), gourmet foods and deli items, artisan bread and pasta, meat and fish, fresh flowers and plants, as well as healing arts, handmade crafts and clothing, collectibles and some bric a brac.

There’s a good range of authentic global food to choose for a quick meal or takeaway: handmade gyoza without MSG (fantastic!), fabulously thin gozleme served with carrot dip and hommus, Dutch pancakes and doughnuts, vegetarian dosa, German bratwurst, raw desserts, fruit-filled frozen yoghurt as well as coffee …to name a few.

Best of all, there’s a whole organic section of the market, including organic coffee, plants and seedlings, ready-made meals such as kofta (the best we’ve tried in some time) and vegetables.

The markets are set up on a grassy flat on the school grounds, flowing into undercover areas of the school giving it a country feel right in the middle of a beach suburb.

The hay bales may have gone, but there’s still a fair bit of seating, and lots of free parking on the oval beside the markets. It’s a great way to begin the weekend, doing your grocery shopping and catching up with friends at the same time!
