Barchino, Nobby Beach

Barchino, on the increasingly trendy restaurant strip at Nobby Beach, is a local hangout which can be all things to all people: an early breakfast and coffee on the way up from the beach; a delicious lunch with friends or a drink and dinner at night, its mood changes according to the time of day. A local award winner for many years, Barchino is known as a casual dining venue where simple food is done well, and some dishes are surprisingly innovative.

The breakfast service begins early, with lots of options, ranging from tropical fruit salad, bircher yoghurt muesli, avocado topped rosti stack with poached eggs and hollandaise, crepes, waffles, omelettes, the fat free veggie munch (Marinated tofu, avocado, grilled tomato, grilled mushrooms, asparagus & baby spinach served on turkish toast) through to the all day big brekkie.

Barchino2 We have eaten here regularly at both breakfast and lunchtime, seated al fresco on sidewalk tables. It’s a popular spot for ladies who lunch, with great salads, light meals, vegetarian and gluten-free options available, wine by the glass as well as daily coffee and cake specials. We ate Filo of spinach, feta, sundried tomato, eggplant & olives served with a Greek salad and house made relish ($17.00) and the Asian inspired Gow chee wrappers filled with chicken & prawns served with vanilla bean rice, spicy green curry sauce & pesto ($23.00). Both meals were delicious and just made by the chef. There are also more substantial options available, such as pizzas, steak and fish. Today we sat just inside, glancing out at other diners fresh out of the surf tucking into hamburgers with chips, beautifully presented smoked salmon salads and ‘suave sandwiches’. With a slight breeze blowing it was a perfect day to bask in the summer sunshine.

Barchino1 We plan to go back to Barchino to try their signature seafood tapas platter, which promises to be a mouth watering selection of hot and cold seafood. In the evening, we’ve been told, the bar comes into its own, the laziness of the day fading away as the vibe increases.

For a super deal, dine at Barchino on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, when all mains cost only $22 for succulent ‘Iron Man’ rib eye fillet steak, Crispy Atlantic salmon, Cajun veal medallions, or even Ginger and lime duck breast! Now that’s a bargain! Bookings essential for this deal.

This is my husband & I’s favourite place to enjoy a relaxing breakfast on a Sunday morning. Even though my husband is not a ‘breakfast’ person, it never takes much convincing to go to Barchino.
Try the breakfast Bruchetta – it’s the best!!
